Here at Hayward Rotary we specialise in our porting, whether its
for road or race, through many years of development we can now
provide porting for all of your needs.

Porting And Power Production: The power produced from a rotary engine is dependant on a number of factors. Not dissimilar to a piston engine, power output is achieved by the burning of a fuel and air mixture to drive the engine and associated gearing and wheels. To increase power we simply have to increase the mass volume of air and therefore fuel to enter and exit the engine. Historically this has been achieved a number of ways such as Increasing the engine volume or adding a turbocharger. By increasing the sizes of the Intake and Exhaust Port of an Engine, coupled with smoothing of the port surfaces, and variations or port timing and duration,, this will increase flow efficiency and mass volume of the mixture entering and exiting the engine. This increased flow will then result in a power increase.

Porting and Power Delivery: With the above in mind, there is another and just as important affect that porting has on a rotary engine... The placement, size, location and shape can have a dramatic affect on a rotary engine, this is due to the fact that a port has an affect on timing and overlap. Dependant on the size and position of the port, we are able to advance or retard the timing of the engine firing, this allows us to actually move our peak horse power point (power band) up or down the rev range, but as we do this we can increase the time that the intake port and the exhaust port are open in the same chamber, this can mix the clean air coming in with an amount of exhaust air and as you can imagine, should this occur too much, power would actually decrease, so precise porting is key. All of our porting has an effect, but obviously to differing levels, and we port your engine to suit the cars application. We carry out street porting all the way to our Bride porting and Peripheral porting, with its distinctive Brap-Brap noise.
